Pray, Believe, Confess, Pursue
Based on James 5
The pastor at the church I attend shared a sermon this morning on James chapter 5, that I thought I would share the “Cliff’s Notes” with you. It’s about 4 simple principles in living the Christian life daily, or finding Christ for the first time. Here they are:
1. PRAY. This should be our FIRST response but many times, it’s our LAST. Prayer develops spiritual patience and endurance. Praise is also PRAYER. James 5:13 says: “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.”
2. BELIEVE. We go to Doctor Google more than we go to the Lord. AI will NEVER replace your personal relationship with others and more importantly with the LORD. The Lord STILL answers PRAYER! James 5:15 says: “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.”
Can you have FAITH and FEAR at the same time? YES, but FAITH is trust in God in the presence of FEAR.
3. CONFESS. If you’ve committed any sins, you will be forgiven when you confess. Confess your sins to GOD and pray for each other. See the above reference to James 5:15.
Prayer gives RESULTS. Keep PRAYING. God uses ORDINARY people to do EXTRAORDINARY things. James 5:16-18 says: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.”
4. PURSUE the lost and wandering people who are away from Christ. James 5:19-20 says: “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”
James give us a road map on how to live OUR lives as well as how to lead OTHERS to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Walk on STEADY GROUND today with Christ!
